Biography

I studied initially in Rome, at the Gregoriana, where I did a first degree in philosophy. I subsequently read Italian Studies at the University of Manchester, where, after a year working on sixteenth-century literary theory, I was appointed to my present post. I have undertaken occasional consultancy work for the BBC, Granada Television, and Manchester's Bridgewater Hall, and have led trips of art historical interest to Ravenna, Bologna, Ferrara, Mantua, Vicenza, Padua, and Verona. I am a member of the Society for Italian Studies, of which I am Treasurer and executive committee member, the Society for Renaissance Studies, the Dante Society of America, and the British Society for the History of Philosophy.
