BSc. (Reading), MSc. (Reading), PhD (McGill)

  • 1964-1967 Studied Physics with Mathematics for B.Sc. at the University of Reading
  • 1967-1968 Studied Meteorology for M.Sc. at the University of Reading
  • 1968-1971 Postgraduate Researcher at McGill University, Montreal, with field trips to northern Canada (Devon Island and Axel Heiberg Island).
  • 1971-1979 Research Assistant at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich with field research in northern Canada, Greenland and the Alps.
  • 1978 Ph.D. awarded by Mcgill University.
  • 1979-1994 Glaciologist at the Geological Survey of Greenland (GGU), Copenhagen with many fieldtrips to Greenland.
  • 1987-1996 Scientific Editor at the Journal of Glaciology.
  • 1994-1997 Lecturer in Geography, the University of Manchester.
  • 1997-2010 Reader in Geography, the University of Manchester.
