Biography
I studied Politics and History at Loughborough University before doing a MA in Political Behaviour at Essex and writing a PhD on spatial variation in economic attitudes and voting behaviour at the University of Sheffield.
My first full-time academic job was as Lecturer in Politics at the University of Leeds, and I came to Manchester in 1994.
I am a member of the Political Studies Association's Executive (see psa.ac.uk for the Association's activities) where I Chair the RAE-Research Sub-Committee.
I am on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Liberal History and in November 2007, Steve de Wijze and I were appointed Editors of the journal Representation.
