I read History and German as an undergraduate student at St Peter's College, Oxford, and the University of Bonn, between 1997-2001. After a year working outside academia, I returned to undertake postgraduate work at Oriel College, Oxford, and at the University of Freiburg, between 2002-06. From Germany I moved back to the U.K. to spend three years as a research fellow at St John's College, Oxford, prior to my current appointment at Manchester in the autumn of 2009. For the academic years 2012-14 I am currently Marie Curie Fellow in German History at the University of Freiburg.
