Biography
Dr. Ralf Brand is Senior Lecturer at the Manchester Architecture Research Centre in the School of Environment and Development. His previous positions include a Lectureship at Queen's University Belfast and an appointment as research associate at the University Eichstätt, Germany. He is also an experienced consultant (primarily for the Sustainability Performance Group) and helped communities develop and implement a local sustainability strategy, called Local Agenda 21.
He holds a Ph.D. in Community and Regional Planning from the University of Texas at Austin where he developed his main research focus on co-evolutionary dynamics in urban socio-technical ensembles, in particular with regards to urban sustainability and community cohesion. He also holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching from Queen's University Belfast, UK.
Dr. Brand is a member of the Society for Social Studies of Science (4S), the European Association for the Study of Science and Technology (EASST), and various other academic and professional organisations. He is also fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Sustainable Society. Further information is available at www.ralfbrand.com.
Ralf Brand is Director of Research of the Manchester Architecture Research Centre and represents architecture on the SED Research Committee. He also serves on the ESRC Peer Review College and has reviewed bids for the U.S. National Science Foundation. In addition, he is reviewer for 10 internationally leading journals and on the editorial board of the International Journal of Sustainable Society. He was also external examiner for architecture dissertations at the Welsh School of Architecture.
