Research students

I have supervised a number of MA and Ph.D. students, on a range of topics within semantics and pragmatics, functional/cognitive linguistics, language change, contrastive linguistics, and discourse analysis/communication/rhetoric.

I welcome students interested in working on topics that fall within my areas of expertise.

Current Ph.D.-students:

James Murphy: Apologies in political discourse. (Lead supervisor: 2011-)

Cheryl Holden:  Persuasion in Anglo-French business encounters.  (Lead supervisor: 2012-)

Christos Makropoulos:  Lexical and semantic change in Ancient and Medieval Greek vocabulary of cultural and religious significance. (Research panel member 2010-)
